West Point finishes perfect regular season with 63-3 win

West Point defeated the Lewisburg Patriots at home 63-3 on Friday night to complete a perfect 11-0 regular season.

The Green Wave have a 41-point average margin of victory on the season and their closest game was a 27-7 win over Lousville.

The Green Wave got on the board with 9:40 left in the first quarter when Chris Calvert ran for a 7-yard touchdown to put West Point ahead 7-0. On the ensuing Patriots drive, Travion Stennis came up with an interception and returned it 50 yards for a score, making it 14-0.

A 15-yard Marcus Murphy touchdown run would give the Green Wave a 21-0 first quarter led. Following a 30- yard Lewisburg field goal by Tanner Gillis, West Point’s Cassius Walker would score on a 7-yard run to make the score 28-3 after the first quarter.

Calvert scored his second touchdown of the night on a 25-yard run early in the second quarter to make the score 35-3. West Point would take a 49-3 halftime lead as Nate Montgomery ran for a 4-yard touchdown and Jake Chambless found Jason Brownlee for a 19-yard touchdown.

Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter until Green Wave third-string quarterback Gray Berry tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jerni White for a 56-3 lead. Berry would score another touchdown on a 6-yard run with 6:45 left in the game for a 63-3 win.

Murphy led West Point with 67 yards on six carries and one touchdown. Nate Montgomery ran five times for 41 yards and a score, while Calvert finished with two touchdowns on two carries for 32 yards.

Chambless threw for 71 yards and a touchdown on 3-of-5 passing, while Murphy was 3-of-4 passing for 35 yards. Murphy also caught a 31-yard pass. Brownlee hauled in two passes for 35 yards and a score, while Jerni White had three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown.

The Green Wave (11-0) will host the Callaway Chargers (5-7) in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs next week.
