The West Point Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department will give out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween afternoon.

CCSD records administrator Patty Goff said CCSD, at 330 West Broad St., will have candy at the front entrance of the Sheriff’s Department, beginning at 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. or whenever the candy runs out.

WPPD Chief Avery Cook said WPPD would also be handing out halloween candy to trick-or-treaters beginning at 5:30 p.m. until candy runs out.

“This is a fun tradition the department does for the kids each year,” Cook said. “We want to provide a safe environment for kids to trick-or-treat.”

Cook said WPPD, located at 310 East Westbrook St., will be decorated in Halloween decorations and festive music will play outside.

WPPD Captain Virginia Rich said children should use caution and remain safe while trick-or-treating.

“Be careful and stay out of roadways and wear reflective clothing,” Rich said. “And as always, if you see something, say something.”

Rich said WPPD would also pass out coloring books to kids and safety information to parents.
