July 24
The first day of MAIS practice is scheduled for July 24, 2017. The Raiders will be looking to rebound from a rough 2016 season, and they’ll have a lot to get accomplished in the first few weeks of practice before they have their first game at Deer Creek Academy.
The Raiders will be relying on a lot of younger players this season, but some of them were able to gain invaluable experience during the 2016 season. The first few weeks of practice will allow coaches to asses what players can do, and what they can help them accomplish in the scope of the season.
August 18
The Raiders will play their first game of the season on Friday, August 18 as they travel to Deer Creek Academy in hopes of starting 1-0.
Deer Creek was able to come into West Point at the end of last season and come out with a hard-earned victory. They had a very solid offensive attack, and were able to move the football in between the red zones, but Oak Hill clamped down often when they got in scoring range.
Deer Creek returns a solid amount of the nucleus from their team that made the playoffs in the 2016 season.
September 8
The Raiders will start their district play like they did last season, taking on Winona Christian in a game that’ll likely set the tone of the rest of the year’s district schedule.
The Stars were able to go into West Point last season and come out with a victory in a game that was an instant classic.
The Raiders scored at will on Winona Christian, but they struggled down the end to get key stops and take control of the game.
The Stars will return a good portion of the players that won the district championship in 2016.
September 15
A week later is another huge game for Oak Hill, as they’ll host Carrol Academy in another contest that’ll go a long ways as to deciding who’ll advance to the playoffs in the 2017 season.
Oak Hill went to Carrol last season and played the Rebels down to the wire, but it’s extremely difficult to come out with wins on the road in district play.
Carrol Academy predicates itself around being a solid defensive team, and they’ll likely be just that again in the 2017 season.
The Raiders had some success against them last year, and getting them in West Point is a huge advantage for Oak Hill.
