Trump, Clinton take county primary, win state

Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump and Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton both won their primaries in Clay County and statewide Tuesday night, with all 14 precincts reporting in the county.
In Clay County, Trump had 1,049 votes to Ted Cruz’ 865 votes. John R. Kasich and Marco Rubio were a distant third and fourth with 172 and 107 votes respectively.
In the Democratic race, Clinton won an easy victory over Bernie Sanders with 2,372 votes to Sanders 351.
Also, part of Tuesday’s primary was the race for U.S. House of Representatives First Congressional District. On the Republican side, Representative Trent Kelly easily defeated challenger Paul Clever in Clay County, 2065 votes to 91.
As of press time statewide, with 702 of 1811 precincts reporting, Trump had 56,076 votes, Cruz had 39,494, Kasich had 8,761 and Rubio had 5,401 on the Republican side.
On the Democratic side, Clinton had 62,136 votes while Sanders had only 11,750.
Statewide Kelly defeated Clever 28,900 votes to 3,042.
