WPWLD has options for its customers

The West Point Water and Light Department's drive through has been out of order for some time.

The West Point Water and Light Department has been at its current location on Broad Street for more then 30 years. The building originally housed the West Point Police Department.

"The drive through has been there since the early 1980s," Marion "Boudreux" Marsac, operations manager with the city, said. "We've only had minor issues with it up until now, nothing major. But the entire thing has to be replaced. It lasted a long time. It was only a matter of time until stopped working. We can't complain about something that worked well for more than 30 years."

Debra Young, payroll clerk for the WPWLD, said they expect the new drive through to be up and running by the last week in July.

"We offer the night depository in the back of the building for those in a hurry," Young said. "The bill payments are dated the day they go in the box. We are checking it several time and day and posting those payments. If you put it in the box July 10, that is the day it will be posted."

Marsac said for the handicapped and the elderly, they can park out front or in the back, call the office and someone will come out to the car and take the payment. There is a handicapped accessible entrance in the back but customers still need to call for entrance in the back.

"We are trying to accommodate our customers in any way we can," Marsac said. "We have a new kiosk inside the Water and Light Department where our customers can pay with a debit or credit card, We still accept payments through the mail, and customers can pay online."
