West Point vs. Starkville: A five year history

Starkville and West Point have played every year since 1924, and the two bitter rivals will take to the field again on Friday night in West Point.
The two teams have played six times over the last five years, with one meeting coming in the north half championship game in 2012. None of the past four meetings have finished within one score, and the Green Wave’s last win over Starkville came back in 2013.

2011: West Point 47 Starkville 22

West Point and Starkville stayed close for most of the contest, but the Green Wave were able to put the game out of reach with a 14-0 4th quarter.
Now Mississippi State running back Aeris Williams rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries, and ‘Tez Lane finished with 149 yards on 19 carries in the contest.

2012: Starkville 29 West Point 28

The two teams would square off again in 2012, but this time the rivals took to the field for the right to play in the state championship game.
The game went into overtime, and then junior running back Aeris Williams ripped off a 10-yard run to give the Green Wave a 28-21 lead.
Starkville answered when Gabe Myles completed a 15-yard touchdown pass on fourth down, and then Myles scampered in for a two-point conversion to give the Yellow Jackets a 29-28 victory.

2013 West Point 55 Starkville 33

The Green Wave dominated Starkville on the offensive side of the football all night, an put the game away after halftime.
Williams had a huge night for the Green Wave, rushing for 267 yards and a touchdown. Quincy Starks rushed for 181 yards in the contest, and Josh Ewings had three touchdowns in the victory.

2014: Starkville 34 West Point 3

In what has been the most lopsided score since 2010, Starkville was able to take full advantage of their home-field advantage in 2012.
Now Memphis quarterback Brady Davis passed for 238 yards and four touchdowns in the contest, and the Yellow Jacket defense held West Point to 238 yards.

2015: Starkville 16 West Point 0

Starkville was the best team in the state in 2015, winning the state championship over Petal in December.
The Green Wave struggled to move the football, early and fell behind 9-0 in the first quarter. Starkville would put the game away late, adding on a fourth quarter touchdown to make the score 16-0.

2016: Starkville 28 West Point 6
The Green Wave only suffered one set-back last season, in the second game of the year in Starkville.

The Yellow Jackets played superb defense, and the Green Wave weren’t able to score until he third quarter when senior quarterback Clayton Knight was able to punch it in and cut the score to 14-6.

Starkville would score two fourth quarter touchdowns to put the game away.
