The West Point High School Green Wave baseball team is poised for its first playoff run since 2011.

As the 2018 regular season comes to a close, five Green Wave players were named to the 2018 All-Region 2 - 5A team: Roe Ketchum, Gray Berry, Seth Edwards, B.R. Watson and Davion Goree.

Ketchum has a .325 batting average on the season and 26 hits, with five doubles and a triple. He is also tied for the most RBI on the team with 20.

On the mound, Ketchum is 2-0 with 66 strikeouts and a 1.32 earned run average through nine starts.

Berry finished 3-0 on the mound for the Green Wave, striking out 33 and finishing with an earned run average of 2.22.

At the plate, Berry leads the team in batting average with .429, slapping 27 hits with 11 RBI. Of his 27 hits, eight were doubles.

Edwards ends the regular season with a .302 batting average, with 26 hits and 12 RBI. He also tossed 17 innings on the mound for the Wave, finishing with a 1-0 record.

Watson batted .297 through the regular season, with 22 hits. He ends the regular season among the top on the team in RBI with 18.

Goree closes out the regular season with a .263 batting average and 21 hits. On the mound, Goree tossed 18.2 innings and finished with 18 strikeouts on the year.

The Green Wave open the Class 5A playoffs on Friday and head coach Blake Hutchinson praised the team effort that got them to this point. West Point travels to Cleveland Central today, then hosts game two Saturday and will travel back to the Delta for the third game if necessary.

“I’m really proud of the guys that were selected for all-district, but as I told them it is a team award,” Hutchison said. “This is the most we’ve ever had selected for all-district and it is due to the team’s success that these guys get this recognition.”
