The West Point Civitan Luncheon Club met Wednesday. In the absence of Jay Jackson, Civitan Club president, Acie Vance, president-elect, presided over the meeting.

"We will only have one meeting in July," Vance said. "With the Fourth of July falling on the first Wednesday of the month, we won't have a meeting. I plan to be eating barbecue that day."

Vance said in July there will only be one meeting, Wednesday, July 18. The normal meeting times for the club will resume in August.

According to Vance there will be a program July 18, with a featured speaker.

"We need to concentrate in bringing in new members," Vance said. 'Its hard for us to raise the money we need to continue with the Workforce Scholarships with EMCC unless we have enough people to help carry the load."

Vance said he would be in touch in Mitzi Thompson at EMCC-West Point Campus to have the recipients come to a meeting.

"We love being able to help people with these scholarships," Vance said. "We do this out of love for our community. We understand the need for people who are out of work to find a job. Many don't have the money to pay for the Work Keys Test. That's where we come in and stand in the gap. But we need more people here who will join to help us in order for us to help the community."

Betty Mason, treasurer, wanted the club to be sure to add the new members to the club roster. The last time the roster was checked it still contained the name of the late Irma Daily, who passed away earlier this year.

"We need to check on some of our members who have not attended meetings lately and have not paid dues," Vance said. "We need to check on them and give them the opportunity to catch up on dues and remain members in good standing."
