A 26-year-old Clay County man who has been sought for two years on statutory rape charges is back in jail.

Ladarrius Channin Childs was jailed this week on Clay County Circuit Court bench warrants issued on April 8, 2016, when he failed to show up for a trial date. His bonding company at the time, Leigh Bonding, was ordered to find him or pay the court his $25,000 bond. Law enforcement and bondsmen have been looking for him ever since.

He was indicted in April 2014 on charges that between Jan. 1 and May 4, 2013, when he was 20 and 21 years old, he had sexual relations with a girl who was 14 and 15 at the time.

Because the girl was under 16, which is the age of consent in Mississippi, and he was more than three years old, the relationship constituted statutory rape. Because he was 20 part of the time and 21 part of the time, the potential punishments vary from 5 to 30 years.
