Downtown and Around Town Dollars have been a staple of Christmas Open House in West Point for approximately four years. The special dollars are good at many local shops and spend just like regular money.

"Everyone has someone on their Christmas list that loves to shop," Lisa Klutts, director of the Growth Alliance said. "With Downtown and Around Town Dollars, they don't have to just spend it at one store like a gift card. They are good at any of these local businesses.”

Valeda Carmichael of Culin - Arts said several people have been using Downtown and Around Town Dollars to make purchases in her shop. She welcomes the promotional currency.

"We want to expand Downtown and Around Town Dollars, to year round, not just at Christmas," Klutts said. "They don't have an expiration date. Stock constantly changes in our local shops so there is something for everyone."

To purchase Downtown and Around Town Dollars, come to the Growth Alliance. They can be purchased in $5 or $20 increments.

"Anything we can do to help boost our local economy is good for everyone," Klutts said. "And having this type of money to spend may spur someone into checking out a local business they haven't shopped in before. We have a lot to offer right here in West Point."
