Tuesday's primary election could bring to a close several county races, and the Democratic and Republican nominees for certain county and state races will also be decided.
The ballot for Republican primary will see races for state governor, lieutenant governor, auditor, treasurer, commissioner of insurance and transportation commissioner. The Democratic ballot will also have governor and lieutenant governor, as well as county chancery clerk, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, tax assessor/collector, District 2 and 5 supervisor, District 2 justice court judge and District 2 constable.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and Clay County Circuit Clerk Bob Harrell said unopposed races will not be on the ballots, with 16 candidates removed from the Democratic side, and five from the Republican side.
"It was less expensive to do that because we were able to have a shorter ballot," Harrell said. "It also saved on the number of ballot styles, which makes things easier for the poll workers and easier on the machines."
