The new location for the New Horizons Credit Union (NHCU) on Highway 45, is slated to open its doors in April. The interior has been completely restructured and is unrecognizable as the former KFC and C.H. Tenders restaurants.
The new building will be named the Betty Logan Henry Building in honor of Betty Logan Henry who was a long – time manager of the credit union and has been instrumental in the credit union’s growth and success.
The board of directors have been talking about changing and upgrading locations for years. The financial problems that arose in 2008 with the closing of Bryan Foods, Flexible Flyer, Artex and other manufacturing facilities put any sort of expenditures for improvements on hiatus. But the financial future of North Mississippi is on the upswing and looking brighter, allowing for NHCU to also improve and expand. But the board is still looking for ways to keep costs under control.
“We gutted this building so it would meet our needs,” Marvin Turnipseed, member of the board of directors, said. “We left the foundation slab intact and the outside walls. This way the building renovation was much more cost effective.”
Turnipseed said originally it had been thought that the entire building would be demolished and the slab removed and a new foundation poured and laid. After much discussion, the board decided to leave the original foundation and outside walls and focus on reworking the interior.
