The Hebron Christian School Lady Eagles moved one step closer to play for a state title after defeating the Tallulah Academy Lady Eagles 34-23 on Tuesday night in Marks.

Caralee Smith, who has been an offensive force in the post season, led the way with 11 points, while Elaina Carter scored 9.

McKinsey Wedel added six points to the winning effort, while Rachael McGrew and Micah Thompson scored four each.

Defense has been the focus for the Lady Eagles and head coach William Cotton had more praise following Tuesday’s victory, which will see his squad advance to the semifinals of the MAIS Class A State Tournament.

“Power house defense won the game for us,” Cotton said. “We held them scoreless in the third quarter after going into half down 16-18.”

Shots from the charity stripe also aided in win as the team went 10 for 12, with Smith going 6-for 6-and Carter going 3-for-4.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Delta Academy on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. to take on the winner of the game between Riverdale Academy and Humphreys Academy.
