Daily Times Leader staff wins 5 MPA awards

The Daily Times Leader on Saturday received five awards in different categories in the 2018 Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by the Mississippi Press Association.

The awards — which recognize stories published during the 2018 calendar year — were presented at the MPA’s annual summer convention held at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi.

“Congratulations to the Daily Times Leader reporters on winning a plethora of MPA awards,” DTL Publisher Joe Robertson said. “I am proud of our dedicated, first-class and hard-working team on this well-deserved accomplishment; each and every day they write professional news, sports and education stories that matter to our community and the readers we serve.” 

The Daily Times Leader received the following awards:

• Steve Rogers - 2nd place for General News Story: “A Day to Remember: March offers subtle links to past

• Steve Rogers - 2nd place for General Interest Column: “The message is just as important today”

• Ryan Phillips - 3rd place for General News Story: “A HERO’S WELCOME: Golden Triangle airman wins big at Warrior Games”

• Ryan Phillips - 3rd place for Best Use of Social Media (All Dailies): “10-hour standoff in Clay County”

• Daily Times Leader staff - 2nd place for Best Front Page: “Three-peat: West Point claims 10th straight title and third straight”
