The Clay County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a new $3,300 microphone system for courtroom 2 on state contract at yesterday's board meeting.
Chancery Clerk Amy Berry said the DMX8 Controller with eight microphones and four channels would replace the current malfunctioning system that has been used for the last 17 years.
Berry said the system was required because all court cases had to be recorded.
Also during Thursday's meeting, the board approved a motion by District 1 Supervisor Lynn Horton to advertise to take bids to pave one mile of George Walker Road in the White Station community.
The board also approved a contract with Golden Triangle Planning and Development District to update the Master Street Address Guide with the new 911 addresses.
Golden Triangle Planning and Development District G.I.S. Director Toby Sandford said the update to the MSAG would update the E911 center with the new 911 addresses to help first responders better find homes and businesses.
Sandford said the new 911 addresses were based on mileage, communities and towns, fire districts and phone exchange.
"The bottom line is, we need to keep this updated to serve the public safety need to save life and property," Sandford said.
During the meeting, the board also approved the sale of two Crown Victorias from the Clay County Sheriff's Department to the Maben Police Department for $3,500 each.
The board authorized Board President Shelton Deanes to execute documents for the Department of Environmental Quality Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Grant in the amount of $7,614.
Berry said the officer cleaned up garbage from county roads, and the grant funded a portion of his salary.
The board also approved travel requests for various county employees to travel to Summer Conferences throughout the month of June.
The board recessed until 9 a.m. on May 30 for group health insurance renewal and bids for a new compressor for the air conditioner at the Clay County Court House.
