Community split on digital billboards

The proposed amending of city code to allow digital billboards within the city limits brought out community members on both sides of the argument during a public hearing Tuesday at City Hall.
West Point’s code of ordinances does not allow the addition of any billboards within the city limits, but the city’s Planning Commission submitted a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen to amend the code to allow more.
The city board opened the floor for discussion and will make a vote on the matter at a later time. Community members — at least those who gave their thoughts during the hearing — fell on both sides of the equation.
Planning Commission member Monte Brassfield said Leonard Busby, of Capturion Signs, originally brought the idea to the commission more than two years ago.
