CCSD website keeps community informed

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott gave a presentation during yesterday’s Rotary Club meeting about the Clay County Sheriff’s Department website,, and how the department is using it to keep the community informed.

Scott said one important feature of the website was the Sex Offender Registry, that was kept up to date with all the sex offenders living in Clay County.

“You need to know who is in your community,” he said. “You need to know who is living right down the street.”

Scott said the website also showed a list of all the current inmates in the Clay County Jail and those who have been released and booked in the last 48 hours, which are all updated and change day-to-day.

As of yesterday, there were 98 inmates in the jail, with 83 being men and 11 being females. Eight inmates are from West Point, one is from Starkville, 56 are from Clay County and 29 are from the state.

Scott the average cost per inmate, per day is $38, which includes food, clothing, housing and medical costs, and is paid for by taxpayer dollars.

“We are very blessed and save money by having a RN on site and a contract with a doctor,” he said.

Scott said the website also included a list of all outstanding warrants in Clay County, as well as a section for press releases to keep news outlets and the community informed.

The website also offers several interactive features.

Scott said it has an interactive tip line that provides information and tips directly to him, and there is an option to sign up for text messages or emails that provide information about the department’s activities.

“It’s been a great tool for us because it provides information back to the public,” he said. “It’s also used by other law enforcement agencies.”

During the program, Scott also thanked the community for their support of him and the department.
