The city of West Point is closing the bridge on Plaza Drive across Town Creek behind Wendy's.

Mayor Robbie Robinson said the bridge was closed yesterday afternoon due to unsafe conditions.

Chief Administrative Officer Randy Jones said all but two of the bridge's support pylons are unsafe and cannot support any significant weight, so the bridge will be closed so the pylons can be replaces.

Robinson said the bridge will be closed for at least 60 days.

Jones said the Clay County Board of Supervisors will request help repairing the bridge from the Tombigbee River Valley Water Management District during this morning's meeting.
