Around West Point's Region

West Point can finish up the Class 5A Region 1 championship in Saltillo tonight, as the Green Wave is 5-0 in region play and own the tiebreaker with Olive Branch and two games remaining against Saltillo and Lewisburg.

While West Point appears to have all but wrapped up the region, there are a lot of important games going on in region play tonight.

Olive Branch Conquistadors

The Conquistadors will clinch second place if they take care of the Lafayette Commadores (3-6, 3-2 region) tonight and can technically still win the region if West Point loses its last two, which seems unlikely. Olive Branch has two remaining games against Lafayette and Center Hill.

Lafayette Commadores

Lafayette could finish in second place in the region if the Commadores are able to win their last two against Olive Branch and Lake Cormorant. However, it is unlikely that Lafayette will win both of those since Olive Branch has been hard to beat, outside of the West Point drubbing.

Grenada Chargers

Unless Olive Branch loses its final two games, Grenada seems destined for the third or fourth seed in the region. The Chargers will need a win against Lewisburg tonight, which will all but ensure a playoff spot.

However, if Grenada loses to Lewisburg, the Chargers may find themselves facing a must-win in the finale against Saltillo. Grenada will be favored to win the final two games to finish at 6-6 and 5-2 in the region and take third place in the region.

On the outside looking in

Lake Cormorant, Lewisburg, Center Hill and Saltillo are all on the outside looking in for a possible playoff birth. To move into the fourth spot in region one, the Gators simply need to take care of business against Center Hill and have Lafayette lose to Olive Branch. The Gators would then hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Lafayette, but not Grenada.

Lewisburg has a bit tougher of a path to the playoffs, solely because it will face Grenada head-to-head tonight and travel to West Point in the finale. Win those two, and the Patriots are in the playoffs, but Lewisburg has the toughest home stretch of anyone else in the region.

Center Hill (1-4 region 1) is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and will host Lake Cormorant tonight. Saltillo (0-5 region 1) is also mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and will host West Point tonight.
