Oxford defeats Lady Wave for district title

The Oxford Lady Chargers (22-7) used a strong first-half finish and 11 total 3-pointers, dispatching the West Point Lady Wave 65-52 in the MHSAA District 2-5A championship game Saturday at West Point High School.
West Point (15-15) overcame a five-point deficit for a 15-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter, the Lady Wave stretched its advantage to 20-11 with 3:50 left in the quarter, but then the Lady Chargers surged. Sparked by three straight 3-pointers of seven in the first half, Oxford entered the break on an 18-2 run.

Daniel, Lady Wave ready for district title bout

The West Point Lady Wave might garner a little more respect with its current form on the basketball court.
After a six-win 2013-14 season, the Lady Wave (15-14) squares off against the Oxford Lady Chargers for a MHSAA District 2-5A title at 6 p.m. tonight at West Point High School. Already in the postseason, West Point could lock up a first-round bye with a win.
“It feels great to play for a district championship,” West Point Head Coach Dashmond Daniel said. “We have reached all our goals for this season and adding a district championship would be the icing on the cake.”

Oak Hill drops semifinal to No. 1 Leake

CLEVELAND – Dominating in the majority of the statistical columns all night, the Leake Academy Rebelettes had to wait until the fourth quarter for any comfort of a win.
Leake sophomore Anna Evans recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds along with three blocks, helping the Rebelettes dispatch the Oak Hill Lady Raiders 57-41 in the MAIS North-AA tournament’s semifinals Friday night at Bayou Academy.
Oak Hill junior Sarah Dill scored a game-high 17 points. Sydney Holton added eight points, and sister Maddie netted seven for the Lady Raiders. Tanner Grubbs had two blocks.

Hebron basketball teams win, advance to semis

February 13, 2015

BELZONI – Hebron Christian's basketball teams advanced with wins to the MAIS Class-A North-Central tournament's semifinals Wednesday at Humphreys Academy.
The Hebron Lady Eagles dispatched the Central Holmes Christian Lady Trojans 62-40. The Hebron Eagles downed Delta Streets Academy 57-47.
The Lady Eagles square off against Benton Academy at 5:15 p.m. today, and the Eagles face Kemper Academy at 7:45 tonight at Humphreys Academy in Belzoni.
