OHA’s Easterling placekicks as 8th-grader

One Oak Hill Raider played six quarters of football on a weekly basis.
From playing in a junior high game on a Thursday to a varsity game on Friday, a 24-hour swing, Grayson Easterling was the Raiders’ placekicker during this past football season. The drastic change from the junior-high level to the high school level was comparable to a step up to the major league.

Wave hosts first holiday tourney

It is finally coming to fruition. After discussing the idea for the past three years, the West Point High School basketball teams will host a holiday tournament.
The West Point Holiday Invitational, a four-game event, starts with a match-up between the Shannon Lady Red Raiders and the Columbus Lady Falcons at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at West Point High School. The tournament features three girls’ basketball games through the afternoon and a finale that pits the Green Wave against the Houston Hilltoppers at 6 p.m.

Fosters, football intertwine

The football game is complete, the scoreboard is off and the cars, trucks and vans exit the gravel parking lots surrounding Hebron Christian School’s football field. Once all is settled, usually 30 to 45 minutes after the final play and the final whistle, one family is still continuing the football coaching process.
A Friday night is typically a long one for Head Coach David Foster and his family.

Thomas proves QB leader

In the past years, the West Point Green Wave had numerous, prolific quarterbacks.
One in the more recent seasons was 2012 West Point High School graduate Tez Lane, who guided the 2011 team to the North State Championship before losing to the Starkville Yellow Jackets in overtime. Another signal caller was Justin Cox, a 2011 graduate of WPHS. Cox led West Point to back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010.
