Oak Hill’s Head Coach Brian Middleton knows how important tonight’s game is against Canton Academy as the Raiders have yet to defeat the Cougars this season.
“A big game,” said Coach Middleton during a phone interview Thursday, “a win over Canton puts us one step closer to a district championship.”
Oak Hill is coming off a knock-out round win over Winston Academy 71-51 putting the game away during the third quarter. Though not one of the Raiders’ strongest performances, Oak Hill has now punched their ticket to the north state tournament next week. Canton now stands in the way of the Raiders for district title hopes and a opportunity at better seeding in the postseason.
“We know we have to play better, they know what to correct,” commented Middleton about his team’s mentality, “we are just going to have to work harder and gain that extra step.”
Oak Hill wants to accomplish big goals this postseason and understands it all starts tonight against Canton.
“Our biggest goal is to make the state tournament,” said Middleton, “and win twenty games on the season, the district championship would be the icing on the cake.”
The Raiders are set to tip-off at 5:15 p.m. following the completion of the Lady Raiders contest against Winston Academy. The district 2-AA tournament is being hosted by Leake Academy in Madden.
