It was the final game for the Lady Wave in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament as West Point took on a very tough Heritage Academy. It was the third game in a three day span that maybe left the Lady Wave with little in the gas tank.
West Point was held to only one Qiayon Bailey basket during the first quarter and failed to ever return into contention with the Lady Patriots. Heritage Academy went on to have full control of the contest and never let the Lady Wave ever get close. The Lady Patriots defeated West Point 44-33.
The first quarter consisted of very poor shooting from the floor caused by two stingy defenses. Though Heritage’s passing was crisper than West Point, the Lady Wave held strong on the defensive end of the floor giving the Lady Patriots headaches. The Lady Wave got their first bucket of the game from Bailey giving West Point their only lead of the game 2-1 midway through the quarter. Heritage though used five made free-throws and one two-pointer from the floor to take a 7-2 lead into the second period of play.
The Lady Wave’s woes continued in the second quarter as West Point became frustrated with their lack of offensive production. After Heritage opened the second with an early 4-0 run, West Point continued their scoring drought which started at the end of the first period. The 9-minute scoreless drought was finally broken by the Lady Wave’s Shamaya Lyles who put in a lay-in at the 2:11 mark bringing the score to 15-4. Heritage closed out the half in dominant fashion, outscoring West Point 7-4 and extending their lead to 14 points. At halftime, the Lady Patriots were all over the Lady Wave 22-8.
After the halftime interval West Point came out a little slow only getting contribution from a Bailey basket and Lesli Bean free-throw at the midway point. Heritage still led with a larger margin between them and the Lady Wave 29-11. West Point picked up their game as the Lady Wave began to play a scrappier, more competitive game. Though West Point trailed by 20 at point during the third quarter; the Lady Wave closed the deficit ending the third quarter only behind 37-21 to Heritage.
West Point continued to try and fight back but never really got a definitive way into the game as the Lady Patriots continued to keep the Lady Wave at bay. Even trying their hardest, the game against Heritage did not seem to be going the way of West Point as the Lady Patriots defeated the Lady Wave 44-33.
Leading the scoring column for the Lady Wave was Lyles contributing 13 points. Right on Lyle’s heels was Bailey with 12 points on the afternoon. Also helping out were Evans (4 points), Lesli Bean, and Shaerica Moore both with 2 points.
