As Christmas has passed and the Holiday season is still in full swing, many high schools are hosting tournaments during the coming week. Three West Point teams will make the trip over to Columbus to play in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament hosted by Immanuel Christian School.
The Immanuel Christmas Tournament boasts strong teams from the MAIS and MHSAA and should be a very entertaining and challenging event for all West Point three teams participating.
West Point Lady Wave
The Lady Wave have had an up-and-down start to the season, but first year Head Coach Kendall Pickens and his team, as of late, have come out with a new attitude toward the season. After the first district win over Saltillo, the Lady Wave will look to continue their great team effort against some tough opponents starting today.
West Point will kick-off the tournament at 9:45 in the morning against Winston Academy. The Lady Wave will then return to action Saturday at the Immanuel Christmas Tournament to take on a strong Heritage Academy ball club.
West Point should use these two games as building blocks to an even more successful January where District play picks up again.
Oak Hill Lady Raiders
The Lady Raiders have had a very strong start to their basketball campaign and will hope to continue the success during the Immanuel Christian Tournament.
Head Coach Stan Hughey will lead his Lady Raiders into the tournament today to take on East Webster High School at 5:15 in the afternoon. Oak Hill will return to action on Friday against the Lady Stars of Winona Christian.
Oak Hill Raiders
Also starting the season successfully, Head Coach Brian Middleton and his Raiders have made some waves in the AA classification. Oak Hill picked up their first district win against Manchester Academy and feel that the district is in their hands.
But before the Raiders dive into more district play, Oak Hill will take on the Tigers from Noxubee County today at 1:30 p.m. Noxubee is a smaller team, lacking a true big man, and the Raiders should match up well with the Tigers. After Thursday’s contest, the Raiders will return to the Immanuel Christmas Tournament to play Winona Christian at 7:15.
