Friends of the Library are very happy to welcome back a favorite author to Luncheon with Books, Thursday, December 13, at noon, author of the Bones mysteries, Carolyn Haines. She is continuing the adventures of everyone’s favorite southern private eye, Sarah Booth Delaney, with her latest novel “Bonefire of the Vanities.”
After years of being a PI, Sarah Booth Delaney has seen her fair share of close calls. Her vow to stay safe once again gets called into question when a wealthy socialite goes missing in “Bonefire of the Vanities”, the twelfth installment in Haines’ charming Southern series.
Marjorie Littlefield, an eccentric billionaire, has always planned to leave her fortune to her cat. But when porn-star-turned psychic Sherry Cameron promises to reunite Marjorie with her dead child, Sarah Booth is convinced it’s a scheme to separate a lonely woman from her fortune.
So, Sarah Booth talks her way onto the March estate as a maid, where she finds Marjorie and several other wealthy eccentrics ready to commune with the dead. Between chores, she explores the estate, finds a few corpses, and runs into a few ghosts along the way. But which guest or staff member is a killer? And are the “ghosts” real? Even Jitty, Sarah Booth’s personal haint, won’t tell until Sarah Booth has uncovered all of Sherry’s well-kept secrets.
With charlatans and spooks coming out of the woodwork, Sarah Booth is the only PI in Southlands who can put an end to this elaborate scam in Bonefire of the Vanities, the latest in Haines sparkling series.
Carolyn Haines is the author of the Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries. She is the recipient of both the Harper Lee Distinguished Writing Award and the Richard Wright Award for Literary Excellence. Born and raised in Mississippi, she now lives in Alabama on a farm with more dogs, cats and horses than she can possibly keep track of.
Haines was originally scheduled to appear in August at Luncheon with Books but was unable to make it due to hazardous weather conditions between her home in Mobile, Alabama and West Point. Friends of the Library are very happy welcome her back to the Bryan Public Library.
Personally autographed copies of Bonefire of the Vanities will be available for purchase. The cost of lunch is $6 and proceeds go to Friends of the Library.
