After a tough loss to regional rival Starkville Academy a week ago, the Lady Raiders responded in a big way Tuesday night in a 50-28 throttling of rival Heritage Academy. Oak Hill used staunch defensive and balanced scoring to dismantle the Lady Patriots on their home floor.
The Lady Raiders came out of the gates ready to play, jumping out to a 7-0 lead before finishing the first quarter with a 14-5 advantage. The second quarter was more of the same. Heritage managed only five more points against the Lady Raider’s smothering full court pressure and went into the locker room trailing 27-10. While the Lady Patriots doubled their score in the third quarter, it was not enough to close the gap as Oak Hill still outscored them in third to stretch the lead to 40-20. In a game clearly out of reach for Heritage, the Lady Raiders continued to play smart and conservatively to take home the convincing the win.
Shay Atkins led the charge for Oak Hill with yey another double-double, recording 10 points and 13 rebounds on the night. Maegen Ellis scored nine of her own, while Lauren Billington and Anna Ready added eight points a piece. Sarah Dill and Bet Langley came off the bench and poured in five and three points, respectively. Rachel Herndon and Shelby Tyler finishd with two points each. Sydney Holton rounded out the scoring for Oak Hill with one point.
The Junior Lady Raiders also celebrated a victory in a 48-13 blowout. Sarah Dill and Madison Collier led Oak Hill in scoring with 16 and nine points, respectively.
Next up the Lady Raiders face Kirk Academy for the second time this season on the road in Grenada Thursday night with junior varsity action beginning at 4 p.m.
