There’s quite a bit of pressure off the Oak Hill Academy Raiders (2-6; 1-1) compared to what they faced last Friday. They were coming off a big non-league loss to Lamar, trying to bounce back in the most important district game to date against Manchester Academy.
This week, the Raiders’ contest against Kirk Academy (2-6) does not have any direct playoff implications. The game, however, could effect how the Raiders play in their next district match, as they will spend the next two weeks getting ready for the final-week showdown against Winston.
The Raiders will enjoy home field advantage for the fifth time this season. They do have one away win, a victory at Hebron, but their lone conference win came at Oak Hill against Carroll.
That Carroll win came on the heels of the 46-12 win over the Eagles in week five. After starting out 0-4, the Raiders bounced back for two wins in a row.
The Hebron game was non-district, but it gave them a lot of momentum going into that following week against the Rebels.
The Raiders are hoping for a repeat of that, as they try to take down Kirk and Marshall Academy before facing their next district foe.
So far this season, Kirk and Oak Hill match up with similar numbers.
Both have the same win-loss record, with Kirk having a 1-2 district record. On both winning occasions, Kirk has come out big with a 41-0 win over West Memphis Christian and a 26-6 win over Manchester.
In the other six games, however, Kirk has had troubles on both sides of the ball. The Kirk Raiders have given up 30 or more points in all six of their losses.
The home Raiders are hoping to bounce back and hand Kirk another big loss tonight.
Kickoff will be at 7 p.m., at Oak Hill.
