The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (5-5;1-3) have certainly accomplished some of their major goals during the 2012 season.
Having not won a game since 2010, the Raiders got things off to a great start with two consecutive victories to start the year. One of those wins was a district victory against Winston Academy.
On Friday night, the Raiders played their last non-district game against Kirk Academy out of Grenada. Though Oak Hill had its troubles in the middle of the season, they are proving their resilience once again with a second straight win, a 34-14 notch over Kirk.
Oak Hill lost three in a row, including back-to-back 42-0 losses a few weeks ago.
Head coach Daniel Merchant has kept this team focused, and they have not given up.
After Friday night’s win, the Raiders are in good shape going into the final district game against Immanuel which has only won three games all year.
The Raiders climbed out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on Friday night. The team added another seven in the second to make it 13-0 at the half.
Oak Hill would double that scoring effort in the third quarter, adding 13 more to the scoreboard. Kirk got touchdowns in each of the last two quarters, but six more in the fourth gave the Raiders a nice cushion.
Riley Pierce led the team at quarterback, and he was 4-for-10 in the air with 70 yards and a passing touchdown.
The Raiders had three players with 90-plus yards rushing on the night.
Sophomore Drake Riley had 98 yard with 40 being his longest. Samuel Harrell had 95 yard on eight rushes, and senior Jeb Stevens broke lose for 93 yards. His longest run was 46 yards.
Drew Riley tacked on 46 rushing yards of his own, and the Raiders had 339 total rushing yards on the night.
Bradley Allen had two receptions for 57 yards, one that went for 39 yards.
Drake Riley led the team on defense with seven tackles.
Jeb Stevens and Joseph Caskey both had four tackles. Blake Henley had three.
Dakota O’Bryant, John Willis Stevens, Drew Riley, Curt Huffman, Cooper Oman and Palmer White all had two tackles each.
Jeb Stevens recorded a sack, and Drew Riley had two interceptions, while Bradley Allen picked off one pass on the night for the Raiders.
Oak Hill will travel to Immanuel next week to close out the regular season.
