William Stevens Lofton
William Stevens Lofton, age 92, passed away Tuesday Aug. 24, 2010, at West Point Community Living Center.
He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Clay County to the late William Neal Lofton and Ruby Anna Stevens. He was a lifelong resident of Beasley Community and a member of Palestine Methodist Church. Mr. Lofton was a carpenter and a farmer and worked at B&W for several years.
Funeral services are Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Palestine Methodist Church with the Rev. Cary Sutphin, Ben Rosenkrans, Rev. Harold Robinson, and Rev. Larry Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Joey Michel, Hugh Moore, Scotty Wooten, Will Moore, Rodger Coleman, David Coleman, Keith Thompson, Jack Elliott. Visitation is today, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour before service time at the church.
Mr. Lofton is survived by his son, Russell Lofton of Pheba; three daughters: Leora Hodnett of Cedar Bluff, Rose Ann Wilson of Cedar Bluff, Deborah Watson of Pheba; one sister, Lucile Embree of West Point, 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie Lofton; brother, Andrew Lofton; sister, Edna Conner; 1 grandchild; and 2 great grandchildren.
