Thomas Jefferson Rodgers Jr., age 84, passed away on Monday Aug. 23, 2010, at Darlington Oakes in Verona. He was born in Mansfield, Ark., on Feb. 20, 1926, to Thomas J. Rodgers Sr. and Sudie Mae Neely. Mr. Rodgers was owner of TJ’s Army-Navy Surplus store for many years. He was retired from the United States Naval Reserve having served in WWII.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Robinson Chapel with the Rev. R.C. Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.
Visitation is today, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Joseph Halechko, Gregg Bennett, Harry Rodgers, Jr., Jeff Rodgers, Robbie Robinson, Kent Watson.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married March 11, 1951, Mildred Watson Rodgers of West Point; three daughters: Kim Rodgers Harmon of West Point, Kay Rodgers Talbot of Byhalia, Tracy Rodgers McVaugh of Columbus; one brother, Harry Rodgers of Kosciusko; six grandchildren: Lyle Harmon, Leigh Harmon Harpole, Marcus Wright, Allison Wright Cantello, Chris Rodgers, Emma Claire Rodgers; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Rodgers; brothers, Joe Rodgers, Elmer Rodgers, Jim Rodgers, Charles Rodgers; sisters, Lucille Rodgers, Eva Lou Weathers.
