As many as six players will be out for Oak Hill in tonight’s non conference slate versus Winona Christian. It’s been an issue for the read and white since fall camp.
Head coach Benjie Merchant and his staff have been forced to reshuffle positions all year long.
“It’s killing us,” he said. “We get one back, we lose anther one.”
Third string quarterback Adam Tumey, a new addition to the squad will be taking the snaps. Last season he played cornerback.
“He’s got a good arm and good throwing motion, just lack of experience at the position,” Merchant said.
Merchant with the injuries, it’s been hard to focus on getting a game plan together because they are having to figure out who’s playing where.
“Consistency is right up there with strength,” he said. “When you have to do that you can’t be good at one or two things. We have to get this mentality changed.”
Despite the setbacks though, Merchant knows his team is still hungry and there is plenty of football left to be played.
“Individually, we have kids who are trying, we just have to put it together,” he said.
The Raiders (0-4) will have another tough test in Winona who are undefeated and shut out three of their first four opponents this season including a 28-0 win over Benton.
Merchant said that after watching film, the Stars don’t make to many mistakes and tier offensive unit is in a good rhythm right now.
“They’re just a good, solid, consistent team and they come at you with several different things,” he said.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
