Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic is paying a second visit to the Bryan Public Library at 2 p.m. today during the Summer Reading Program in West Point. He uses jokes, magic and puppets to create a fun and entertaining learning experience.
“Everyone loved Tommy Terrific last year,” Dawn Richardson, children’s librarian at the BPL said.
“We were pleased to be able to invite him back to the library again. He is a wonderful entertainer who keeps the children’s attention with his non – stop brand of wackiness. He was a favorite performer last year.”
Richardson said Tommy Terrific comes to the BPL from Little Rock, Ark., taking the show on the road throughout the South. He entertains at museums, festivals, churches, schools, hospitals, and everywhere there are children, she said.
Hannah Garbutt works part – time at the BPL and said she is always happy to be part of the SRP. Garbutt said Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic is awesome, colorful and captivates the kids in the audience.
“I grew up in North Little Rock, Ark., and moved to New York City after graduating from Northwestern University to pursue an acting career on Broadway,” said Tommy Diaz, also known as Tommy Terrific. “While in New York I created Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic show. My father-in-law was known as ‘Weldon the Wacky Wizard’ in Canada. He helped me develop my character and started me on the way to becoming Tommy Terrific. I’ve been doing this act for 10 years. The first three in New York and the rest in Arkansas.”
Diaz said the theme is “The Magic of Science” to tie in with the SRP theme “Fizz, Boom, Read.” He said the magic tricks will all be science oriented and lots of fun.
