Mattie Pearl Deans Davis, age 90, of West Point, passed away from this earthly life Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. her hour of departure.; she was touched by angels to begin her journey.
Sister Mattie Pearl Deanes Davis was born Jan. 19 1924, in Palo Alto, to the late Mommodore Deans and Margerie Shannon. She was affectionately known as “Pap,” “Gertrude,” “Big Momma,” “Mrs. Davis,” “Auntie” and “Mama.”
Sister Mattie Pearl wnited in holy matrimony to the late Charlie Davis Sr. July 13, 1946. To this union two children were born: Gail Ann Peyton (Clifton) and Charlie Davis Jr. (Willie.)
Sister Mattie Pearl joined Palo Alto M.B. Church at an early age and later joined Strong Hill M.B. Church where she served at treasurer of the usher’s board, secretary of the Strong Hill Stockholder’s Cemetery, was a member of BTU and the Missionary Society.
Sister Mattie Pearl began her early education at Rasberry Elementary School in Clay County. She then went on to attend North Side School, Rust College and Mississippi State University. She began her teaching carreer at Strong Hill School and continued teaching in the West Point School district for 45 years.
