The Oak Hill Raiders notched their third straight conference win — a 10-7 victory over the Leake Academy Rebels — Wednesday night to draw to an even 4-4 in District 2-AA. Led by a three-hit and four RBI performance from senior first baseman Joseph Caskey, the Raiders beat division rival Leake academy for the second consecutive night.
“You know, it is an unusual situation having to play back to back nights because of the threat of rain, but it’s just one of those things and we have to get out there and compete,” said Raider Head Coach Marion Bratton.
The Rebels got on the board early in the top of the first thanks to a bases loaded RBI walk from Thomas Nazary, but Oak Hill starting pitcher Drew Riley worked through a bases loaded jam and only gave up one run. The Raiders ended the bottom of the first with the score knotted due to a sharply hit RBI single from Caskey. Oak Hill and Leake were retired in order in the second inning.
The Rebels then struck for two in the third after a couple of walks and a two-run single from Nazary. Right fielder Trevor Turner and shortstop Ken Dill got it started in the third, reaching on a single and walk, and both later came around to score on a two out, two RBI double from Caskey. Rebel first baseman Chay Allen earned an RBI single in the top of the fourth.
The Raiders responded with their biggest inning of the night, tallying four runs in the bottom of fourth. Turner and second baseman Curt Huffman started off the inning with back-to-back singles, and a pass ball left them in scoring position for Dill, who hit a two RBI single to right field. Later in the inning, Dill came around to score after another RBI single from Caskey.
