LOUISVILLE — The dynastic Oak Hill Netters returned to the action with a revamped look despite some old faces on the tennis courts in District 2-AA.
After an 8-1 loss to Class-AAA power Heritage Academy in the season opener, the Raiders downed the Winston Patriots in team match play, 6-3, in a District 2-AA opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s a little both new and old faces, but we revamped this season,” Oak Hill Head Coach Brian Middleton said. “Last year, we had a great and big senior class. But with that, you have to pay a price.
“We are rebuilding this season," Middleton added. "I am glad of the young kids coming out to play for us.”
In singles action, Oak Hill junior John Willis Stevens took over the No. 1 singles position for the Raiders. Stevens made quick work of Winston’s Coly Duty with a straight set victory (6-2, 6-4).
Stevens was the MAIS Class-AA state runner-up as the Raider’s No. 2 Singles player during the 2013 season.
Will Kelly helped the Raiders sweep the Boys’ Singles matches with his victory (6-3, 6-3) over Brandon Rogers.
