Yokohama Boulevard is paving its way to the beginning of its construction. County officials held a pre-construction conference Thursday in the upstairs courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse, where project managers and contractors focused on what needed to be done before construction commenced.
In a previous interview, Robert Calvert, president of Calvert-Spradling Engineers Inc., said the Yokohama Boulevard project is essential in the construction of the actual Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Plant as it serves to expedite the shipment of materials to and from the construction site. Essentially, the road will serve as a straight-shot path to the site. Calvert said the project will consist of paving four miles of road stretching from Highway 45 to Barton Ferry Road. The road itself will be two lanes. Construction crews will also erect four bridges spanning the new road.
At the start of the meeting, Foster Jones and Associates Inc. Civil Engineer David Torrence gave a heads up to contractors about submittal requirements. Torrence cited the requirements, which state “contractors must submit to the county engineer and the railroads detailed plans and provide data for temporary construction clearances, stages of construction, fault plans, excavation plans, temporary shortening plans and calculations.”
