The Saltillo Lady Tigers overcame a three-point, halftime deficit with a 12-4 third quarter, giving Saltillo a 46-41 victory over the West Point Lady Wave in the District 2-5A opener Tuesday night on the campus of West Point High School.
Saltillo’s 12-4, third-quarter performance started with a Jamaya Coggins’ free throw and ended with two free throws from Keyona Kohlhemin with less than five seconds in the period, 33-28. The Lady Tigers went four of six from the free-throw line and knocked down three baskets inside the lane. West Point struggled offensively with a two of 11 field goal shooting display and missed all seven attempts from the charity stripe in the eight-minute stretch.
“We tried to adjust at halftime and tried to settle down more to get a little more focus,” Saltillo Head Coach Cassie Farris said. “After we did that, things worked more smoothly for us. We hope are turnovers clean up for the season.”
Coggins led Saltillo with 17 points, scoring 11 in the first half. Kassie Gaston added 11 points to help the Lady Tigers capitalize over the Lady Wave.
