Expansion is the name of the game for the East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) Golden Triangle (GT) campus. And early 2014 will officially mark the beginning of a massive construction effort to erect a new student union building and create a significant marker in EMCC’s timeline.
Paul Miller, EMCC vice president, said the construction of the nearly $15 million student union is a pivotal moment in the school’s history.
The EMCC GT campus, since its construction in 1968, has long since been in need of renovations to accommodate the growing number of students that enroll with each year, said Miller.
In its infant stages, the campus was designed and constructed for the purpose of serving a nominal 300 some odd students, but as time progressed that number increased dramatically. According to Miller, the typical number of students that enroll for coursework at the GT campus rounds off to approximately 4,000 students.
