The West Point Green Wave (5-4; 3-2 District 1-5A) scored 29 unanswered points in the second-half to defeat district opponent Saltillo, 43-22, after trailing by eight points at halftime in a MHSAA contest Friday at Hamblin Stadium in West Point.
Recovering a Saltillo onside kick to start the third-quarter, the Wave marched behind five Aeris Williams carries to later find pay dirt on a Quincy Starks' 21-yard touchdown carry. The touchdown run sparked the second-half rally.
The West Point defensive unit forced two turnovers during the third-period as Tiger quarterback, Tyler Tollison, lost a fumble during an option run and later threw an interception to West Point junior Jalen Lee. Both turnovers resulted in Wave touchdowns behind the legs of Williams as he scored on a five-yard dive and four-yard carry to give West Point a two-possession lead by the 9:45 mark in the fourth-quarter, 36-22.
The senior running back finished his night with 37 carries for 275 yards on the ground. Williams rushed in three touchdowns with the first occurring during the first-quarter with 16 seconds left, giving West Point a 14-6 advantage.
