When the Oak Hill Academy Raiders (9-12; 3-2) have been on this season, it’s been really hard to stop them. Take last week’s non-district game against Calhoun where they won 54-42, a game Oak Hill was in control of from the start.
The next night, however, they fell at the buzzer to district rival Carroll, on the road.
With not boys Winston team, the Raiders were forced to sit out Saturday, and they returned to the court on Monday night at Heritage. Oak Hill fell to the hosting Raiders 52-39.
In the first quarter, Heritage jumped out in front, scoring 17 points in the first eight minutes. The Heritage boys allowed just seven points to Oak Hill.
Oak Hill repeated with another seven points in the second quarter, giving up 11 points to Heritage which had a 28-14 lead at the half.
In the third, Oak Hill out-scored the Raiders 8-7. In the fourth Oak Hill had its best scoring quarter of the night, netting 17 points.
Unfortunately for the visitors, Heritage matched that and held on for the win.
Reid Posey led the Raiders in scoring for the night with 12 points.
Zach Bryan, Jeb Stevens and Conner Baird all had six points. John Wesley Williamson had five points, and Jacob Dickens scored four.
The Raiders had only 17 rebounds on the night, with two of those being on offense. Oak Hill shot only 30 percent from the field as well.
Heritage 17 offensive rebounds of their own.
Oak Hill will try and improve its district record to 4-2 this Friday night when the Raiders go to Yazoo City to take on the Manchester Mavericks. The Mavericks defeated Oak Hill in their first meeting.
