I would like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Wendy Fuller, our former Clay County Election Commissioner for all of the hard work and years she has put in with the county.
On Thursday morning, the Clay County Board of Supervisors voted to dismiss Fuller as an Election Commissioner. The vote was 3-2.
The board had a tough job to do, and they did it the best way that it could have been handled.
The circumstances surrounding Fuller’s dismissal should not blemish her overall record of service to the citizens of Clay County.
Fuller’s passion for her job and for voter education is unmatched in this region.
I cannot think of a better-run and more efficient commission than the one that has operated under Fuller’s direction.
Since I took over the post of Managing Editor, I have had the privilege of working with Fuller on a number of elections.
Two of those elections were Special Elections, and one of those elections went to a runoff this past March.
In each of the three times I have covered elections in Clay County over the past 10 months, Fuller and her commissioners have been completely cooperative, and the results have been posted in a timely manner.
Voter registration throughout the county has also increased under Fuller’s watch.
While I respect the Clay County Board of Supervisors’ decision to dismiss Fuller as a county election commissioner on Thursday morning, I am also saddened to hear that Fuller will no longer be serving in that capacity for future elections.
I know that Fuller is energetic and passionate about so many things, and that is why I feel that she will still be working for the citizens of Clay County in whatever way she can.
I look forward to working with Mrs. Fuller on her future endeavors.
