It is spring time! It’s time for everyone to start sticking their heads outside and enjoying the bright sun and great weather with some kind of fun activity. Whether it is watching a baseball game or taking in a round of golf or even just taking a step outside, spring is the best time to do any of these activities.
Unless the weather decides to literally rain on your parade. In the past few weeks here in West Point the weather has been rather gloomy and no where near the seasonal temperatures many Mississippians are used to in this time of the year even with it being February. With extremely windy and cold days along with overcast afternoons, I have been feeling very down.
And it is not just myself that is feeling a little under the weather. I know that many of our baseball, softball, tennis, and track coaches and athletes have been hampered by the onslaught of rain and dreary days. Home and season openers for baseball and softball have been postponed or cancel. Also with the raining conditions, practices have been moved indoors for sports that need wide-open spaces.
I hope that I won’t get claustrophobic or I forget what the sun looks like across a clear blue sky. Maybe I’ll get a chance to step outside, even though the ground will squish underneath my feet. I hope that all our teams get a chance to finally let their legs stretch out and move into the best time in Mississippi, the spring season.
This will be my one favor of Mother Nature. I promise I will not complain when I am sweating on a sideline in August or wishing that the rain and freezing temps disappears in January. All I won’t to ask is that you will stop with the overcast and dreary temperatures at this time of the year. I really just want to get outside and catch some rays and some sports. Is that too much to ask?
