Kindergarten registration date nears

DTL Staff Report

West Point and Clay County parents of children who will be 4 or 5 years old by this fall need to mark their calendars for March 20.

That's the day East Side Elementary in West Point is having registration for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.

From 3-6 p.m., parents can register, meet teachers and East Side Principal Jacqueline Gray, and tour the school and classrooms.

Students must be 4 or 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2018.

To register their children, parents or guardians must have:

-- An original birth certificate;
-- Immunization records;
-- Two proofs of residency such as utility bills, phone bills, bank statements, leases or deeds;
-- The child's Social Security card;
-- Legal guardianship papers for students living with someone other than the parents listed on the birth certificate.

Parents can check with the Health Department or their family doctor to get immunization records and to get certified copies of a child's birth certificate if they don't have the original.

Anyone with questions can call East Side Elementary at 662-494-4691 or the Central Office at 662-494-4242.

East Side has between 250 and 275 pre-k and kindergarten students each year.
