A Columbus man is in jail after being charged in connection to a burglary and auto theft.

Investigators with the Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested 38-year-old Shane Bazell on Monday, charging him with burglary of a shed and two counts of grand larceny of more than $500 following the theft of two vehicles.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said one of the stolen vehicles was recovered and the second vehicle was located by investigators in scrap metal yard in Lowndes County.

Bazzell is being held in the Clay County Detention Center and bond has not yet been set. His initial appearance in court has also not been revealed as of press time on Tuesday.

"It kind of comes and goes, but typically when scrap metal prices go up old cars start getting stolen and when prices go down we see less of it," Scott told the Daily Times Leader.

Scott said the investigation is ongoing, but no other arrests were expected in the case.
