From Staff Reports
With gas prices soaring, Christmas just past and an already bad economic environment, some luxuries are going to have to go.
The West Point Parks and Recreation wants to give every child and parent who wants to participate in youth sports a chance to do so, and this week they are doing that by extending the deadline to pay for youth basketball sign-up.
“We’re extending our basketball deadline date to accommodate people in these tough economic times,” said Parks Director James Crowely on Wednesday.
The original sign-up period was supposed to end on today, but the department said that they are extending the deadline until January 15 to give parents one more pay period to decide whether they want to participate.
The season was originally scheduled to begin on January 17, but that date will likely be pushed back as well to allow time for creating teams.
