Thursday was a big day for the Clay County Board of Supervisors. Although the agenda was light at Thursday's meeting, one bullet point stood out — bolded on the printed agenda, as a matter of fact. District supervisors opened bids for the extensive Yokohama Boulevard project scheduled to begin in the coming days.

The cost of the project is estimated to round off at about $21 million. The board opened sealed bids in the courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse. The lowest bid belonged to Eutaw Construction Company Inc. (ECC) with a $19,465,284.42 pledge. Colom Construction Company Inc. (CCC) had the highest pledge in the amount of $25,996,185.13.Following closely behind CCC was Tanner Construction Company Inc. with a bid of $21,688,026.42. W.G. Yates and Sons Construction Company put forth a $20,146,284.64 bid. After a final review of logistics enveloping the contract on behalf of Calvert-Spradling Engineers Inc., the board accepted ECC’s low bid.

The official date for commencement of the construction has yet to be announced. However, in a previous interview, Robert Calvert, president of Calvert-Spradling Engineers Inc., said contractors would have precisely 12 days to complete the project.
