Yellow Jackets sting Wave, 5-2

STARKVILLE — The West Point varsity baseball team traveled to Starkville High Saturday afternoon to take on its Golden Triangle rival in non-district action.
The Starkville Yellow Jackets plated three runs in the first and never looked back, earning a 5-2 win over the West Point Green Wave despite being outhit five to four.
West Point had five hits from five different players with Bruce Barclay, Ryan Crowley and Jaylin White all singling, while Steffon Moore added an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Antonio Reese took to the mound for the Green Wave, going five innings, striking out five and giving up five runs. Crowley also threw an inning of no-hit baseball in the sixth for the Green Wave.
Starkville High got a good start from George Petty as he went the first five and 2/3 innings, giving up only two runs on three hits. Harper Day closed it out for the Yellow Jackets tossing the last one and a third, giving up no runs on two hits.
The West Point Green Wave will return to district action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Saltillo.
