A Sunday evening collision kept traffic slow-going for more than an hour along the southbound lanes of Highway 45 near West Point.
About 7:30 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the area in response to a two-vehicle collision. According to Sgt. Criss Turnipseed, MHP public information officer, Roy Lee Robinson, 54, of West Point, was driving north on Hwy. 45 hauling a hay trailer in an older model, green Jeep Cherokee when he pulled through a turnaround location to head south in into the path of Elizabeth Pettit, 19, of Memphis, Tenn.
Pettit, who was driving south on Hwy. 45 in a 2010, silver Jeep Cherokee, struck Robinson’s trailer and vehicle.
“It was one of those that looked much worse than what it was,” Turnipseed said.
While traffic was backed up for cleanup, no injuries were reported, and neither driver was taken to the hospital.
