West Point Police Department investigators are searching for a suspect in connection with an alleged armed robbery Saturday evening at Internet Cafe on West Main Street.
According to a WPPD statement to media, the cafe business manager was approached as she locked the front door to the establishment at closing hours Saturday night. A suspect described as wearing black pants, a black shirt and black cap, allegedly took the manager’s purse — which contained two money bags holding an undisclosed amount of cash — and fled west, according to the release.
Police were unable to locate the suspect; however, investigators recovered the empty purse from behind a neighboring business.
WPPD Chief Tim Brinkley said it was important for business owners and managers to remain hyper-vigilante when opening and closing stores.
Crooks are opportunistic and look for weaknesses in your business practices,” Brinkley said, per the release. “They know that at the end of the day most businesses coffers are full and that’s the best time to strike.”
