At about 8 p.m. Wednesday, West Point Police Department officers were dispatched to Town Creek Apartments in reference to a possible shooting.
Upon arrival at the scene, according to a press release issued by the WPPD, officers were approached by residents of the apartment complex, who proceeded to inform police that an individual — likely the victim — was spotted entering a black Nissan Maxima, which then vacated the premises. According to the report, the victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.
The victim, according to the release, suffered from a gunshot wound to the neck, but “his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.”
West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley declined to comment on the existence of witnesses to the actual shooting as it took place. Individuals who perhaps witness these crimes, Brinkley said, are oftentimes wary to provide solid testimonies.
“Those who witness these acts are reluctant to come forward because of their fear of retaliation,” Brinkley said.
