WPHS give parents leg up on paperwork

WPHS got a jump on all the paperwork needed for the students to begin the 2012-2013 school year.
Parent Orientation was held at the North Campus for the entire high school. Lines were long at each of the 13 different tables requiring signatures from parents, students names, the grade the child was entering and all sorts of information needed at the beginning of each school year.
Proof of residency was a requirement this year for every student. Two forms of I.D. were needed to assure that children are enrolled in the correct school district.
Having a current number of students legally enrolled in the WPSD makes it easier to acquire much needed federal funding.
Free and reduced school lunch applications were taken in one of the schools computer labs, eliminating the need for the forms to be taken home.
Forms were then completed and returned to the proper person and each sheet per student was initialed.
Upon receiving all 13 initials, the parent was given the schedule for the student’s classes.
If the student had taken the required state tests last year for their grade, they then traveled to the South Campus to find out if they had passed the state testing requirements. If so they can now concentrate on the remaining tests and ACT.
In earlier years, all forms were sent home on the first day of school. Having everything set up at the school eliminates lost and damaged forms. Parents with several children in the school district were usually overwhelmed with paperwork going to different teachers and different schools.
The West Point School District hopes that taking care of these forms at school will make the transition to the new school year easier for students, parents and teachers.
